About us

What we do

Books for Guyana is a project that brings reading books from Scotland to Indigenous communities in Guyana. In 2025, Books for Guyana established its first library in Chenapou Village and this year we are looking to expand our work by gaining official charity status.

Who we are

Books For Guyana is a community of people who support this initiative. We are looking to expand this family through creating a body of charity trustees. If you are interested in becoming a part of this team, find out more information or contact us here.

Who we support

Our library project is based in Guyana's hinterland and supports residents of Chenapou Village and its neighbouring Patamuna communities. Chenapou Library mostly functions to support the local nursery, primary and secondary school children. Despite national efforts to improve access to quality education for all, these Indigenous children face significant barriers in their learning. Books for Guyana's work aims to fill some of the gaps in access to schooling and lack of education resources.
