Chenapou Library
Chenapou is a small Amerindian village based along the Potaro River in Guyana. It’s been made known on the map owing to its close proximity to the Majestic Kaieteur Falls, one of the highlights of any trip to Guyana.
In 2018/19, I worked as a volunteer teacher with Project Trust in their village primary school. During that year, I was sent a box of reading books by my family as the only school resources were outdated textbooks. The children’s response to these books sparked the idea for Books For Guyana, and the promise to bring them more books turned it into a reality.
Thanks to the huge ongoing support towards this project, the Chenapou Library has gone from just one suitcase of books in 2021, to hosting over 1600 books that have been shipped across the Atlantic in barrels.
